Break free from the stereotype of obesity and reshape social evaluation and self-image through weight loss.
My personality is... being fat.
This is taken for granted in a society obsessed with appearances. To those who don't know me, my work and its content seem completely unrelated and insignificant.
What matters is the impression my appearance makes.
The first impression is "fat." Because I'm fat, I don't fit into any fashionable trends, and I'm also prone to talking too much.
Up to this point, it's only the first element of my personality. On top of that, I'm labeled an "otaku." Whether I'm a writer or a social commentator, these titles are hidden behind this strong personality, impossible to reveal.
Moreover, the "fat" personality doesn't convey impressions of "writing," "wisdom," or "commentary." Therefore, when I publish a book, no matter the title, people won't think my writing is particularly insightful.
Perhaps it would have been better if I wrote a cookbook, but my book isn't a cookbook, so it's been overlooked, and as a result, very few people read it. Even those who read it,
only saw it as the opinion of a fat person and dismissed it without question, failing to receive an objective and fair evaluation.
Actually, I've "unexpectedly" received fair feedback from some people who became my fans after reading my books and attending my lectures. However, such cases are extremely rare.
I think this way because I was surprised by the drastic change in how others perceived me after I started losing weight.
Please don't misunderstand.
I didn't start losing weight for that reason. Initially, I started for health, but for some reason, I sensed a dramatic shift in the attitudes of those around me. Why was this? After much consideration, I finally came to this conclusion:
People can benefit or suffer because of their appearance.
This isn't limited to romantic relationships; in all professions, appearance has become an important factor.
In professions requiring intelligence, those who appear intelligent have an advantage. Charming women have an advantage in romance, but if they are lawyers or doctors, their abilities may be underestimated, putting them at a disadvantage. For teachers, it's best to project an image of honesty and kindness. For business people, an impression of cheerfulness and efficiency is preferable.
These things may seem obvious, but in a society that values appearance, if your appearance doesn't match your profession, you won't receive good evaluations at work.
Here, I want to emphasize the issue of overweight people. There are virtually no professions that are advantageous for them.
Being a gourmet is probably the only one.
Even this sole profession raises doubts: "Everything tastes so good, can this person really appreciate the subtle differences in flavor?" Naturally, they can't become a top-notch gourmet.
All other professions are disadvantageous for overweight people.
Overweight people often give the impression of "a happy face, carefree about nothing," and this impression is unsuitable for intellectual work. Even if their speech is logical, others won't perceive it as logical. Even when discussing knowledge-based topics, others won't perceive them as knowledgeable.
Working in management or entertaining guests is also unsuitable, as it gives a stuffy and unpleasant feeling. No matter how strong your planning skills or how decisive you are in adapting to changing circumstances, being overweight will never enhance your image.
Even those middle-aged men who have gained weight and developed beer bellies, like myself, are no exception.
Regardless of the degree of obesity, being overweight is always a disadvantage.
Moreover, even with efforts in clothing, belongings, and speech, the characteristics of being overweight cannot be concealed.
If you could eliminate the impression of being "overweight," you could showcase other advantageous personality traits. However, this is almost impossible for overweight people. Because the physical characteristic of being "overweight" will be apparent before any other personality trait.
Even if you ask others to look beyond appearances and consider inner qualities, they still won't see any personality traits other than being overweight.
It's certainly possible for someone labeled as "overweight" to gain recognition through outstanding work and achievements.
However, if you could work that hard, it would be more efficient to spend time losing weight. In a society obsessed with appearances, only weight loss seems to be the most economically effective strategy.
Many people may find this view unacceptable. However, please consider it carefully.
Having progressed through societies based on family background, academic qualifications, and brand recognition, our society has now entered a society obsessed with appearances.
